History
OCEA was founded in 1987 by the acquisition of the shipyard POUVREAU (1934), well renowned for its aluminium expertise.
Over the years, OCEA brings together the naval building activity in Les Sables d’Olonne by taking over, first in 1990 the shipyard UNION & TRAVAIL (1917), then in 1995 the shipyard LE BASTION.
In 1996, OCEA opens in Saint-Nazaires a second waterfront production site dedicated to the building of fast vessels.
In 1999, MAG FRANCE based in Fontenay-le-Comte brings to OCEA its expertise in composite know-how.
In 2000, TIG in Guadeloupe joins the OCEA Group. An evidence of the OCEA’s will to grow internationally through partnerships.
In 2009, a new waterfront production site is acquired in La Rochelle.
The OCEA Yacht Department has been created in 2000, when an experienced yacht owner and his naval architect were looking for a shipyard that could build them a reliable yacht, tailored to travel for extended periods of time, and to remote areas. The history of OCEA in designing and building professional vessels fulfilled their search requirements. From there….
Summer 2002 saw the delivery of M/Y ESPIRITU SANTO, a 30m OCEA Classic Yacht. In early 2003, her delighted owner and his guests were enjoying the America’s cup races in Auckland, some 15,000 nautical miles away from Les Sables d’Olonne.
This first OCEA Yacht has been followed in 2003 by M/Y OKEANIS, a 40m OCEA Commuter Yacht, and in 2004 by M/Y ABELY WHEELER, the first OCEA Commuter 108. M/Y OKEANIS is based in the South of France and cruises within the Mediterranean waters. M/Y ABELY WHEELER has completed in December 2006 her first circumnavigation going west. The long list of her numerous stops includes: Cape Verde Islands, Cuba, Panama Canal, Galapagos, French Polynesia, Fiji, Bali, Phuket,…..
Summer 2007 saw the delivery of the OCEA Commuter 108 M/Y MARHABA. She is based in Italy and cruises along the Italian coast.
Summer 2008 saw the delivery of the OCEA Commuter 108 M/Y PAOLYRE and the OCEA Classic 85 M/Y AKISSI. They are both based in the south of France and cruise along the Côte d'Azur.
One OCEA Commuter 155 and one OCEA Classic 72 are currently under construction for delivery in 2011.
